An Inherited Aesthetic: The Charm of Koishiwara Ware
"Koishiwara-yaki" is a traditional craft that has continued since 1669. Originating in Koishiwara Sarayama, Fukuoka Prefecture, this historic pottery was designated a National Traditional Craft in 1975.
Through distinctive decorative techniques, most notably "tobikanna" (a jumping-chisel carving technique), each piece takes on a rich, individual character. By skillfully employing a variety of traditional techniques, including hakeme (brush-stroke patterns), kushime (comb-stroke patterns), nagashigake (trailed glaze), and kusuribake (glaze brushing), artisans create pieces that are rustic and warm in feel.
While preserving these traditional designs, we incorporate new elements suited to modern lifestyles, offering products that blend artistry with practicality.
